The Mar Gregorios Orthodox Church Student Movement (MGOCSM) started out as the Syrian Student Conference in 1908. Church leaders felt that students needed a way to deepen their spirituality and loyalty to the Orthodox faith; so various groups were established on college campuses all over India. Saint Gregorios of Parumala was selected as the patron saint for the group, and the name was officially changed to MGOCSM in 1960 with the motto "Worship, Study, Service." MGOCSM is the oldest Christian Organization in India. It is comprised of any student 13 years or above who belongs to the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church.
